Mensa

Dear Carol,

At last I am finally getting round to dropping you a line. As you know it is now some time since Donna brought Mensa to us and what can I say!

Probably nothing you haven’t already heard before from other similarly overwhelmed and overjoyed adoptive parents. I really don't know where or how to begin to adequately describe the deep, emotional bond that already exists between all of us. I wouldn’t have believed it possible to feel so much so quickly.

As you know it was only in January of this year that we lost our beloved GSD Max very suddenly.

I know I don’t need to tell you how utterly distraught we felt. In the ensuing weeks our happy home came to feel more like "Bleak House", dark and empty as if all the lights had gone out at once and it was far too quiet, not to mention neat and tidy. No toys strewn all over the floor, no half eaten biscuits behind the sofa. Still, we couldn’t conceive the possibility of another dog taking Max’s place, he was unique, special in so many ways, intelligent, bright, exceptionally intuitive, deeply affectionate and absolutely irreplaceable and yet……

Working away at the computer one day, I began an internet search. To this day I cannot recall why. Somehow I stumbled across the "Second Chance" website and printed off pages. I handed these to Roger when he came home that evening. His immediate response was to say, "Let’s give them a ring" I said "Now?". "Yes" he said "There’s no harm in finding out more" The rest as they say is history. To cut a long story short, within something like a day or two you told me of a dog you thought would be suitable for us. It was Mensa.

I have to tell you, Carol, that as first time adopters we were a little nervous. More for Mensa than for ourselves. What if he missed his home, What if HE didn’t like US. Well that all seems like a distant memory now. From the moment we opened the front door and he walked inside, none of us has ever looked back. He just strode in and took over our lives completely. He is such a big softy, like an over-stuffed teddy bear. He has truly put the smiles back on our faces and we already cannot imagine our house without him.

We have been truly blessed to find a beautiful dog with such a huge and loving heart who loves coming out to play golf! We are deeply grateful to you. There is so much more I would like to say but all I can really say in the end is "Thank you" and to MEAN it. We do, from the bottom of our hearts.
