A few months ago we were so
lucky to have Hero come into our lives through Second Chances. We had lost our last German Shepherd Ria about 2 years ago, and although we
have 3 other dogs, the family just wasn't complete without a German Shepherd.I got in touch with Second Chances and had long conversations with Julie, who
so expertly matched us up with Hero. Julie went to so much trouble to make
sure Hero was right for us, and most importantly, we were right for him.
At last it was time for Hero to come to his new home with us. He had a really long and what must have been a very frightening journey to get to us. This included a long car journey, overnight stay with James, ( one of Second Chances dedicated volunteers) who so kindly put Hero on the Ferry in Aberdeen. Hero had a 7hour trip arriving late at night, where my husband Ken met him. They then stayed in the car overnight , sharing treats and had another ferry trip to get to our island, one of the remotestin Orkney. Hero took all this in his stride and has settled into being a country dog so well. His first job of the day is going with his Dad to check all our other rescued pets, including piggies, horses, sheep, goats, geese, ducks and hens. Then later on in the day it is into the jeep and away with Mum to one of our many beaches, checking out all the bunnies as we go. Hero is such a lovely boy, with real character and we adore him. Second Chances are doing such excellent, dedicated work with all the German Shepherds they have in their care and we would like to say a big thank you to Julie, James and everyone involved, for allowing us to have Hero. We feel very privileged to have such a wonderful boy.
